From navigating the hurdles of starting a family while facing financial obstacles, I transformed personal challenges into professional aspirations. My journey infused resilience into empowering physicians in their real estate pursuits, drawing upon my firsthand experiences.
The decision to uproot our lives and move to Colorado was daunting. My husband, Sean, had just completed his residency as a physician, and we got married. We knew this was the start of a new chapter, but it meant leaving behind the life we had built in Utah. The day we returned from our honeymoon, we loaded up a truck and left our home in Salt Lake City for Colorado Springs. Leaving behind a career I enjoyed, the many friends we had made and our familiar routines of Salt Lake City was very difficult for me. I loved our life there but wanted to be closer to Sean’s parents in Colorado and my parents in Arizona as we grew our family. It was a decision made with the hopes of finding a community where we could lay down our roots. However, the initial year felt like an unending struggle. Transitioning from ICU to ER nursing brought a stark shift in mentality.
The sense of fulfillment I once found in guiding patients through their entire healing process was replaced by the urgency to triage and stabilize in the ER. The strain of adapting, compounded by a job that didn't align with my goals, took its toll, particularly during my pregnancy with our first child, Aidan. Health issues compelled me to take a temporary step back. Meanwhile, Sean also found himself discontent with his job and found a new opportunity in Denver. It took a few months before we collectively agreed on a move. We put up our home for sale by owner and sold it to the first person who walked through it. I had read “Selling Your House for Dummies” and managed to make a profit that helped us in purchasing our next home. We transitioned to Highlands Ranch, Denver, then Parker, where wenow still reside. Here, we found the sense of community we had been looking for all along.
It wasn’t until 2011 that we discovered the physician loan: a financial tool that would have made these transitions far more affordable and accessible for us as Sean started his career. We couldn’t believe we never knew about it! This information could have changed our lives back then. This revelation led me to delve into real estate, driven by a clear purpose: to impart this knowledge to physicians. With each move, I built connections, pinpointed resources and navigated the intricacies of settling into a new place. Armed with a real estate license and this invaluable knowledge, I endeavored to educate medical professionals about the existence and benefits of physician loans, understanding firsthand the impact such information could have in navigating the housing market under financial constraints.
My journey in real estate started with a proactive approach, researching specialized loan options and collaborating with lenders. Over time, I gained expertise, eventually becoming recognized as an expert in physician loans and certified as a DRS agent (Doctor Relocation Specialist). This specialization allowed me to forge connections nationwide and collaborate with organizations, aiming to bridge the gap between physicians' housing needs and financial possibilities. Today, a significant part of my clientele comprises physicians. Guiding them through real estate transactions isn't just a job; it's a mission. It's about leveraging my expertise to empower physicians, ensuring they have access to tailored homeownership opportunities that align with their unique circumstances.
Beyond work, my focus remains on family, supporting my sons, Aidan and Kevin, in their endeavors while still indulging in my personal interests like boxing and skiing. Whether to familiar destinations like Salt Lake or exploring new places, traveling holds a special place in our family's heart. From beach vacations to skiing down mountains, these moments allow us to cherish our shared experiences.
